With its unique focus on well-being and recovery, “Bad to Bed” promises to provide thought-provoking and comforting storytelling as it explores mental health and emotional resilience topics.
A brand-new, avant-garde Taiwanese web series promises to upend the formula of conventional BL dramas and provide a novel and inventive perspective on the genre. This series promises to push the limits of traditional storylines, exploring more profound issues and character development through audacious storytelling and surprising plot twists. With an emphasis on more nuanced relationships and original plots that set it apart from the norm, fans of BL material may anticipate a welcome change from the clichés.
Jonas (Chen Jiun Yan), best known for his part as the physical education instructor in the hit Taiwanese drama The On1y One, is one of the leading actors in the cast of ‘Bad to Bed’. In the film Bad to Bed, Jonas plays “Wan Xiong,” who shares a bed with five other young men and struggles with insomnia. The boys, who are portrayed by Hseih Yun, Li Zi Cheng, Tang Hong Yuan, and Zhang Jia Hao, each have a distinct personality that enhances the series’ emotional and psychological complexity as it explores subjects related to mental health.
Jonas departs from his usual cheerful roles, embracing a character that demands intense emotional depth. His muscular build contrasts with his vulnerability, particularly in a powerful scene where his character, suspecting infidelity, furiously bangs his head against a wall. The force of his performance caused concern among the crew, leading to an immediate cut. Before filming the scenes, Jonas and co-star Hsieh Yun (Dai Shu) meticulously coordinated how hard they should hit the wall to maximize the tension and realism in the scene.
The series also contains many heartfelt moments, to the point that the drama coach jokingly referred to the cast and crew as a “crazy production crew.” Sequences that are so gut-wrenching occur every couple of episodes. Both Jonas and Xie Yun are pushed to their emotional limits by the several crying scenes, each with its own unique extent of emotional intensity.
