Taiwanese BL The On1y One (other names: 某某, Mou Mou, A Certain Someone) has just arrived and, with only 5 episodes, it was already managed to give attraction several of the fans not just on Asia but around the world, leaving them an intense feeling for the next chapters. The conversing plot follows the “enemies to lovers” where there is a dynamic between the two students who, later, discover that they will have to live together in one roof.
The On1y One’s Storyline
Jiang Tian (Benjamin Tsang) and Sheng Wang (Liu Dong Qin), two guys with radically different personalities who haven’t gotten along since their first meeting, are the subjects of The On1y One. Jiang Tian lacks lofty goals in life, is icy and gloomy, and contains a number of secret feelings. Sheng Wang, on the other hand, is awkward and endearing; he is just a little child who lacks self-expression, regardless of his poor connection with his father and distaste for the concept of a “new family.”
When Sheng Wang’s father and Jiang Tian’s mother reveal that they are dating, forcing the two to live together as “stepbrothers,” their relationship gets even more knotted. A new sensation gradually surfaced as they became closer, exposing previously unseen feelings between them. In spite of their differences, the two are able to bond fast and support one another when they are most vulnerable. The gradual evolution of these two characters’ connections, which swings between collaboration and rivalry, is what keeps the narrative of them interesting.
Pleasant Cast and Production
The talent and production crew of The On1y One are largely responsible for its potential to become a milestone in the BL genre. The film has all it takes to succeed. The show is directed by Liu Kuang Hui, who gained recognition for his direction on Your Name Engraved Herein (2020), the highest-grossing LGBTQ+ film in Taiwanese history, and is based on the well-known Chinese novel Mou Mou (掐掐), penned by Mu Su Li. In turn, the script was written by the same creative team that produced the highly acclaimed Chinese BL The Untamed (2019), guaranteeing an engaging and coherent story.
Despite being a relatively young actor, leading man Benjamin Tsang, 28, is already making an impression in his first significant part in a television series. Even though his prior work has solely included LGBTQ+ shorts like Boxing (2019) and A Cohabitation (2019), fans are captivated by his portrayal in The On1y One because it exposes a depth of feeling. On the other hand, 30-year-old Liu Dong Qin adds charm and experience to the screen. Liu has had a steady career since 2016, but he is most renowned for his role in Psych-Hunter (2020). He and Tsang have a great rapport that is crucial to the success of the series.
Fan favourites Zach Lu from HIStory 2 – Crossing The Line (2018), JN Yu from Be Loved In House (2021), and An Jun Peng from HIStory 4 – Close To You (2021) round out the cast in addition to the main characters. The production team’s wealth of knowledge and these seasoned performers guarantee that The On1y One presents a superb acting and narrative experience.
Technical Aspects of The On1y One
The series’ instant popularity was largely due to the lead actors’ chemistry, which forged an engrossing bond that captured viewers’ attention right away. The way Liu Dong Qin and Benjamin Tsang develop their characters’ relationships adds to the plot’s realism. They both have a wonderful ability to portray real emotions.
Technically speaking, The On1y One is notable for its exquisite cinematography, which enhances the story’s intense emotional content. The soundtrack, which consists of well chosen songs, heightens the most powerful sequences while the art direction and location selections give the tale an immersive and real feel. By all reports, the production is receiving great appreciation for its calibre and meeting the high standards of Taiwanese lovers of BL drama, who never settle for anything less than the best.
With a strong cast, unfathomable chemistry, and a masterful production, The On1y One is poised to become one of the genre’s greatest huge successes of the year.
